Just got a 914, price was TO good, Not sure if the engine is a porsche or bus. I believe it's "W0052645." It's on the tranny side as a 1.7 should, but in the research I did do, it said the "w" was either a 914 1.7 or a vw 411 1.7. Any insight? Again, thanks for you time.

411 motors have the dipstick in the wrong location.

Sedans do but wagons don't. Or was it the other way around? Anyway, I believe that one of the two versions of the 411 has the dipstick in the "Bus" location, while the other has it in the 914 location.
Bottom line--the W-code motor is either the correct one for an early 914 (70-71), or it's close enough that you won't be able to tell the difference. (Or it has the oil filler and dipstick poking into the firewall of the 914--but I kinda doubt that's the case here. And even then, the performance should be the same.) --DD
