engine sizes?

i'm looking at getting a parts car, and am wondering how to tell what size the engine is. i've located a parts car (red 72 with the black vinyl roll bar covers no chrome bumpers and i haven't looked inside the car yet) near by, and am *planning* on getting it and parting it out after i get the pieces i need from it. (sound familiar to anyone?)
i'm running that liquid cooled engine, so won't be needing any of the air cooled stuff. that's also why i don't know what to look for with the air cooled (original) version... any help out there?

The serial number is one way, there are sites for that info.

Basically, if three bolts hold on the intake manifold to the head, the spark plug holes are on the side, and the Fuel injectors brackets are pigeon toed, its a 2 liter. Also the case numbers begin with GA (73 to 74) or GC (75 to 76) [it think this is correct]. GA is the case you want

If 4 bolts hold on the manifold, spark plugs com from the top, an injectors are straight, its a 1.8 or 1.7

1.8 have the serial number on the back right of the engine near the tranny.

1.7 and 2.0 have serial numbers near the oil fill.

I hope this helps...
