Turbo Diesel 914
One of the local crazies from Silver Sage Region PCA decided he wanted a 50mpg 914. So, he got some VW 1.9 liter turbo diesel from Japan and stuffed it in his 914. It actually performs better than the 2.0 that was in the car and he is getting 55mpg. He even installed a heater box inside for "real" heat. Kind of sick, in a cool kind of way.
How is this for a trailer (and v-8 914):

Looks like fun. . .
I once had a '74 that burned oil and would run on without spark - You had to drop the clutch to shut down. I think it might have converted its self to a diesel. |

Here are the specs I found for the 1.9L TDI motor. I don't know how much it weighs but it puts out more hp and torque than the stock 2.0L so his car probably is fun to drive even if it sounds like a Diesel.

Actually it's not the TDI he put in. I think it's a 1.9 from a caddy (vw truck). I got a ride in it and it runs pretty damn good.

I think that the specs for the euro motor. I have a 98 TDI Jetta with 120K miles. If I remember right, it's 90HP and 150 ft-lbs of torque. The car has good accelleration and I can pass people all day long in the mountains.
Diesels are goofy motors if you are not used to them. They make for great commuter and cruiser cars. There are also a number of mods that can be done to this motor. |

Even the old VW NA and turbo diesels were pretty cool IMHO. We had a Jetta that got 35-50mpg (on flat highways it really rocked) and was reliable as the SoCal sun for about 20 years. Sure it was quite a bit noisier and slower than the later TDI's but how many $10-15K 80's cars could survive with extremely low TCO and downtime for two decades?

Turbo Diesel...........
I like the trailer flairs and five lugs, should have left the seats in so he could take the kids. I've been wanting to build a trailer but that may be a little big. But I do like it.
