Removing/inspecting "behr" Unit
 

I need to know how i can clean this thing out and/or remove it for inspection without removing the gas tank....I have 3/4 tank of gas and nowhere to store anything. I have leaves or something stuck in the drain tube and now i guess its clogged because everytime it rains i get rain dripping on my feet/pedals area. HELP!!!

I've removed mine without taking the tank out. There are screws (4 I think) holding it under the slotted opening. I also have removed the charcoal canister on top of the tank and that my be what is in your way. That thing comes off pretty easily, too, but I don't remember the specifics...

...once you have it out of the car be careful...the slips that hold the thing together are tought to get off and the unit itself can be very brittle.

well how do you remove the expansion tank on top of the gas tank?

If you are looking to get inside of the fan unit, there are 4 -6 clips that hold the face (has Behr printed in it) to the body of the fan unit. Do not try to pry these off. The plastic tabs they are snapped onto will break off. THen you are SOL. Take a hammer and punch or screwdriver and slide them off to the side. You should now be able to take the face off and look inside at what may be sitting in, on, or around the fan impeller and also what may in the drain tubes. Be careful when you take the face off because the top of it fits into a piece of weatherstripping the encircles the fresh air slots in the cowl. This weatherstrip is usually very brittle and I dont think its made anymore. Getting the face back on into the w/s can be a bear. I have loosened the entire unit from the cowl to get access to the back of it, but have never completely removed it from the car. Too many cables to disconnect. Hope this helps you!

Innstead of struggling to get those little clips back on, I used those small binder clips (the black ones with the two wire handle things you sqeeze together). The handle things can be easily removed and the result is fine unless you are a REAL CW.

Check in Haynes. There are two bolts, one on each end of it. You may need to remove the filler neck as well--I forget.


...Nice tip on the binder clips, too! I'd never thought of that!
