fog lights/MPG?
 

No stupid questions just stupid answers...Well, I can't figure out how to turn the fog lights on in my 73 2.0l. I have tested the bulbs but to no avail. I do not have an owners manual to refer to. I figured the yellow dash knob is to be pulled out...also with the headlights on...high or low beam? Further trouble shooting will require me to check the relay...Where is it located? I have checked for power at the light harness behind the light..no 12v. All fuses look good and tested the ground from the housing to the body of the car.

Next item...What kind of gas mileage should I get with my 2.0l stock FI... thanks, scott.

2.0s should get over 25mpg.

The fogs work when the lows are on, they have their own switch. Some people have re-wried them so that they work on both, but the factory set them up to work only on low....

The relay is located on top of the fuse box. I don't remember which one it is; sorry.

Fuses can be bad but still *look* good. I suggest replacing them "just because".

Check out a haynes manual. They have a good wiring diagram. Also, check your grounds.
Sometimes, corrorsion in the light socket.
Original wiring should be in the trunk.

I argue that my 2.0 gets about 14mpg with the top off and my heavy foot on the gas...

If I drive it nice, I think its around 25 or so, that sounds right.

Well I just recorded 11.5 mpg and that is with a lot of highway 65mph driving. Are we talking a bad or mis adjusted MPS?

I know I run a touch lean... Why I couldn't tell ya. Stupid F.I. system anyway. Its not lean enough that it gets too hot, just leaner. I beleive my MPS is functioning correctly.

11.5 mpg is definitely too low for a 2.0 at highway speeds. I would check for the usual suspects (timing, mixture, etc.).

The MPS and the cylinder head temp sender have the greatest impact on the mixture. Try the D-Jet article on the 914 fans web site. It tell you how to test these companents.

Look at the spark plugs if they are all black/sooty it is most likly a sensor, if only one or two are bad the ijectors are leaking.

One additional note. I have stock F.I., but if you converted to some 44 Webers, well your MPG will decrease noticably.
