Pertronix install

I am finally getting around to install the Pertronix system that I purchased in April. However I have a couple of questions...

When I install the magnetic sleeve it does not want to go all the way down to the base. The sleeve is oriented correctly.

If I put the rotor over the magnetic sleeve the rotor sits higher than it previously would, of course. However when I put the distributor cap on the distributor does not turn as freely. There is notable resistance as the top of the rotor is pressed against the cap.

I looked at the numbers on my distributor and they are:
Bosch
JFUDX4
0 231 174 011
VW 039 905 205 A

The pertonix unit is:
IP - PT - 1847

Here are some pictures...

Has anyone else experienced this?

I had to grind off the points ground solder as it was in the way of the pertronix base.

Thanks,
David

This is a known problem. You can either Dremel the Pertronix ring or the bottom of the rotor to provide clearance. There is an alternate Pertronix part number (it ends in a "V") for vacuum-assisted distributors like our stock ones.

I just did this with the compu fire equivalent. I removed material from teh bottom of teh rotor. I also had to use an AL spacer to clear teh vac adv arm

Thanks for the suggestion Dave. Cutting the rotor was easy and it worked. Now I just need to put the distributer in and try to crank it over.

Btw.. I looked at my Pelican invoice and the last position on the part code does end with a V. Or is that just random that the Pelican code ended with a V.

Make sure you hook it up right...READ the instructions....reversing the poalrity turns into a piece of worthless junk....not that "I" think that it already is....:p

Carry a spare set of points for that "on the road" failure....

From the looks of your pic's I would suggest taking the advance plate out and clean and lube and check both mec and vac advance. Also check and clean your trigger points and clean and lube its lobe/cam

DJs: good call and shame on the rest of us for not noticing. a gummy advance mechan. can cause poor performance
