Air injectors on 1976 2.0l

I have a '76 912E which the previous owner had renoved the airpump from. I decided to remove the airpump manifold and cap the air injectors (leaving them in the head until I have the time and money to do a proper rebuild). I did this on a '75 914 I owned and it seemed to work fine. The problem is, the air injector on the #2 cylinder head is severely stripped out and leaking exhaust. I'm thinking about removing the exhaust manifold, tapping the upper portion of the head (where the injector shoulder would be), blowing any chips out of the exhaust port, and plugging the hole with a threaded brass plug. Has anyone out there had this problem, or have any other ideas that would avoid dropping the engine and removing the head? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Be sure to check your local smog laws before attempting this. In California, a '76 model still has to have all of its original smog equipment in place (and working!).

Any tapping of the head with the possibility of getting shavings inside gives me the willies....I would check compression, and leakdown. If the numbers are low, pull the head(s) do a valve job and plug the smog injectors with the heads off the engine....
Mom always said....there is never time to do a job right, but always time to have to do it over after you screw it up the first time...

When I got my 914 ('75), it had bolts force threaded into the holes and they would back out from time to time. I explained my problem to the local Porche repair shop and they gave me these little plugs just for that purpose. Even though the threads where stripped on mine too, the plugs threaded in and have never been a problem. They looked like eighth inch pipe plugs that use an allen wrench to tighten them.

The air injector passages open into the downstream of the exhaust port (past the valve and before the exhaust manifold), so running a 10 x 1 metric tap down the hole to chase the threads will not deposit any metal shavings into the combustion chamber.
