Heat exchangers
I got a 76 914 which has the calif. heat exchangers. Now I want to replace them with the not calif. type. I know I that the muffler isnt the same as are the headers. But will the heating hoses/heater flapper box fit right on.

The flapper boxes are the same but that's about it. I changed mine out this last year. You need the j-tubes,the right & left warm air ducts, engine shelf hot air ducts, r&l lower deflector plates, and the little pieces that hold em together. If you can afford it get the 2.0l SSI heat exchangers they really work well and don't smell like rust either!

Did this upgrade also. What the poster before me said applies. The 2.0 SSI heat exchangers will be the challenging part to find, but they are worth it for the bit of extra power and added longevity. I am running this with a Bursch muffler, and am please with the performance.
But do keep your stock system, though. You may need to bolt it back on every two years for smog inspection, as I am about to do in a month or so. |
