Starter Smoking!

Well here's my question while trying to start my flooded 73 2.0, I must have turned it over about 30 times within a 15 minute span. All of the sudden smoke starts to come off of the solenoid. Did I fry it by cranking it too many times? Now it doesn't even turn the engine over.

I hate to state the obvious, but smoke coming from any automotive electrical part is never a good sign. The solenoid may have just overheated. If after cooling down it does not operate normally, check your wires and terminals. Then be brave, give it a Viking funeral, drink to Valhalla, and move on... :<(
