Fair Price for Rebuilt 1.7 Long Block?
What's a fair price for a rebuilt 1.7 long block?
Well if you are looking for a 914 long block with the dome pistons. Good luck the are NLA.
The only 1.7 pistons are dished for a bus and Cofab brand. Is your car FI or Carbed? |
It's a Fuel Injected motor.
Do you want to keep it Stock?
Yes.

Piston-Cylinder Set, 90mm Domed, 8.2:1 CR, 914 1.7 (1970-73), one set left, $375.00
John what brand?
My stock1.7 FI is going under the knife next week. I am having my rebuild with new Mahle Pistons done for a little less than $1500. The pistons take up most of the $$$. $1100 with out the pistons. Thats everything.... Also being rebuild by 30 year air cooled verterans. Not to mention they are matching the internet parts prices, well, most of them.
I also failed to mention the engine is out of the car. That saves a lot of money too. BB |
You might as well go to 1.8 liter pistons and cylinders......
Those will decrease the compression ratio with there 15cc dish. His 1.7 has Domed pistons the domes are 5cc.
John What brand are the pistons? Mahle KS Cofab?
This is true Steve..

the question has not been answered. what is a fair price for a 1.7 rebuild?
when i was going to rebuild my 1.7 by northwest connnecting rod they quoted me 2 grand........so I just bought a motor that had just been rebuilt 500 miles ago for a hundred bucks. Sometimes you stumble across good deals.
