Fair Price for Rebuilt 1.7 Long Block?

What's a fair price for a rebuilt 1.7 long block?

SteveStromberg 11-16-2004 07:26 AM

Well if you are looking for a 914 long block with the dome pistons. Good luck the are NLA.
The only 1.7 pistons are dished for a bus and Cofab brand.
Is your car FI or Carbed?

73ess 11-16-2004 07:34 AM

It's a Fuel Injected motor.

SteveStromberg 11-16-2004 07:45 AM

Do you want to keep it Stock?

73ess 11-16-2004 09:25 AM

Piston-Cylinder Set, 90mm Domed, 8.2:1 CR, 914 1.7 (1970-73), one set left, $375.00

SteveStromberg 11-16-2004 02:24 PM

John what brand?

nyum96 11-16-2004 06:07 PM

My stock1.7 FI is going under the knife next week. I am having my rebuild with new Mahle Pistons done for a little less than $1500. The pistons take up most of the $$$. $1100 with out the pistons. Thats everything.... Also being rebuild by 30 year air cooled verterans. Not to mention they are matching the internet parts prices, well, most of them.

I also failed to mention the engine is out of the car. That saves a lot of money too.

You might as well go to 1.8 liter pistons and cylinders......

SteveStromberg 11-17-2004 10:59 AM

Those will decrease the compression ratio with there 15cc dish. His 1.7 has Domed pistons the domes are 5cc.

SteveStromberg 11-17-2004 11:04 AM

John What brand are the pistons? Mahle KS Cofab?

mikey 11-17-2004 04:17 PM

This is true Steve..

the question has not been answered. what is a fair price for a 1.7 rebuild?

Biggy72 11-18-2004 05:37 AM

when i was going to rebuild my 1.7 by northwest connnecting rod they quoted me 2 grand........so I just bought a motor that had just been rebuilt 500 miles ago for a hundred bucks. Sometimes you stumble across good deals.

1.7L Early motor

I have a "W" case Early motor from my 70 car. Needs bearings and rings. Heads are tight cam is in good shape. This would be a complete motor but just sold the MPS and injectors
