Please weigh in, what is it worth?
I am looking for a daily driver 914 and here is a candidate,
1974 1.8L much more than 250K miles one owner, daily driver for 30 years hit in rear passenger side, totaled by insurance co. but bought back and fixed (not sure about title status) usual rust around battery box some interesting looking rust at door sill near strike side (need ppi) engine replaced at 170K with 2.0 that did not last. 1.8 rebuilt and there is about 40K on the rebuild. Interior original and rough. Any idea on a reasonable offer? Here is a pix. ![]() Thanks.

You might want to look further into the rust issue. If it's going to require major work, you might want to pass. If the rust isn't that big of an issue, why not offer $500 or so? You know you're going to have to put quite a bit of $$ into it.

I agree, 500 tops.
Rust is major bucks to fix. Its cheaper to find a cleaner car. With that many miles you are likely to end up with a parts car that you dont want. You would have a hard time getting your $500 back from parts in bad shape. -Rich Hilgersom |

The rims if Mahles are worth ~$400. Car is worth some where in the $500 to $1000 range.

I bought my first 74 1.8 for $1500. Although it was a CA car, it had some rust under the battery tray also. I would go with Jim's numbers. NO MORE than a $1000. Thats a good deal for both you and him. If it has lots of rust at the front suspention mounts, rocker panels, and the jack points, its worth $200. If your a project kind of person and can do all your own work, thats a good deal for both of you. If you have to pay someone to do the work, the car should be free. Just make sure you put it up on a lift BEFORE you go any further.

The biggest issue is rust. Anything else can be fixed. Anything!
Rust was the doom of my 914, and after having dealt with it, I never want to again. If the jackpoints are rusted and won't work then you have to ask yourself if you're ever going to be willing to invest in a car that has the kind of problem that's too expensive to fix and will only get worse.
