16" / 17" wheels on a 914?

I saw a picture of a heavily modified 914 that was tricked out to look much like a newer Boxter. One of the modifications on it were the boxter wheels. I believe those are 17" wheels?

A lot of people have posted in the archives about which wheels will fit on stock setups and whatnot. I'm more interested in what wheels/tire setups will work period? I am looking for something a bit more modern and am not so concerned with keeping the car stock.

Anyone running newer 16 or 17's on theirs? I know a +2 oftentimes does as much harm as good on upsizing, so I'm more interested in 16's probably with lower profile tires.

Thanks,

Brian

It depends if you are going to flare the wheel wells or not....the Porsche offset (911/914/6) 16x6 and 7s will fit with a 205 tire....the 225 with a little massage...

The 17 inch wheels have a different offset and will invariably come in wider than 7 inches...you will most probably have to flare the fenders...

I have not acatually bolted the wheel up. (Becuase I dont have my 5 lug trailing arms in yet) BUT, I borrowed a friends 911 Carrera 'turbo twist' wheel. the same one the Boxsters are running (17x7.5), and It seemed like a close fit but I think it will physically fit under the rear stock fenders of my 914. I'm am very interested in using these wheels on my 914. I'm not sure if the wheel is going work in the front and be able to go lock to lock w/o hitting the inside fender. If it does.... well, flares it is!

Hi All - Happy 4th.
The 17 in turbo twist (technology) wheel will fit under a stock fendered car with no or very little modification. There is a guy running around Denver in such an animal, and his car has not been changed to a 5 bolt set up - he is using adapters. He also uses a 40 series tire, I'm not sure of the width. The motor in his car was built by Painters Grinding in Denver 303.722.5537. They may have more details.

The 16" and 17" rims of the newer generation cars (986 & 996) have I belive a 53mm offset.
Without flares, you can go with the 7" wide rims (the fronts since I think the rears are 8" and 9")and then you can run 16/17" x 7's on all four corners. On the front you'd want to run at least a one inch spacer to move the rims out some so they don't sit too far in torwards the car. For the rear a spacer of 3/8" to 1/2" might be needed depending on the size tire.

The rears looked flared to me and the fronts look like they have the lip cutout.

a guy down in SD has a yellow 914 (6?) that's got those rims on it, not sure on the width of the rims, but his fenders were definitely rolled

in this pic (off of the reddawg site also)
all of the white parts are ones that they make. i think they had to make the fenders stick out a *little* to get the wheels under them. i e-mailed them and asked for info on what tires/brake setups they were using on their cars and they just tried selling me a video. they said it was "too complex" to describe to me and i'd have to just get the video and watch it for myself. i figure that if they aren't going to tell me which wheel and brake conversion i need to get to work with their fenders i'm not going to get their rebody kit. (the price puts a damper on it too!)

I believe that the front 911 twist wheels have a 23mm offset and the rears have a 53mm offset.
