bogging down below 3000
 
I've run into a little problem, may or may not be fuel related. I just replced my fuel filter and a few lines and have noticed now below 3000 rpms the engine seems bogged down and unresponsive. Above 3000 it runs fine. I also have some problems starting because of this. By the way the plugs are showing I'm running a little rich. The car is 76 with a 1.7l out of a 73. Any help would be greatly appreciated

If it is fuel injected (BTW I have a 72 1.7L in a 74 that had a 1.8L L-jet hacked to a 32/36 single carb) and it happened right after the filter change make sure of the following.

1. That the fuel pressure regulator is hooked up right. I don't even know if the car will run with it backwards but check it anyway. Look up Dave Darling's hose diagram in the tech ref section.

2. Make sure the fuel filter is in right, it should have a flow direction arrow.

3. Make sure you didn't inadvertantly unplug the MPS vac line. My 1.7L ran like a dog until WOT then it was great. The problem is with no vac signal the MPS assume you are at WOT all the time.

4. You are useing the 1.7L MPS, right? If you try the 2.0L it will make the engine run very iregularly BTDT.

5. Make sure the Cylider Head Temp sender didn't get unpluged.

6. If you are using carbs...you are on your own.

Thanks for the response, I do have the fuel injection. I've checked everything and it all seems to be hooked up correctly. Although it does seem to run fine at wot, would that be the mps? I know the fuel lines are hooked up correctly, could this also be a prssure problem?

My guess, well I have many.

Check the throttle sensor, make sure you hear 20 clicks as you move it by hand (its kinda fun http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif

Check the fuel pressue at one of the injectors. Just pull it off and fill a 20 ouncer with some gas. Crank it for 5 seconds, and the ouncer should have 1/3 full of gas. Make sure to dispose of this gas correctly (i.e. dont drink it), maybe dump it back into your tank if the 20 ouncer was clean. Then rinse out the pop bottle. If you have enough fuel in here, you should be fine. If it was pressure related from hooking it up backwards, it will not run.

Also, check your points. I think you need a tune up, plugs/wires/points (or equivlant). Set the timming.
