High revs !!

Hi,

My 914 came with the hydraulic lifters when i bought it. And my car doesn't pull very well at high revs. I read somewhere that the hydraulic lifters make the valves "float". Is this true ? Does anyone have any experience in the conversion from plain to hydraulic lifters. THX

The Hyd lifters are not designed for the Type IV 914 motor. They were for the low revving, lower HP bus, if you can not rev as high as the next 914 with standard lifters, your hyd lifters are doing what they are designed to do....

Mikez is sorta right, but if the cam, push rods, etc were are replaced with hydraulic parts then it should work fine. My daughter's car has the Web cam hyd setup and will rev to 6K w/o any problems. But she only revs to this at an autocross or other driving events. You might want to check what grind the cam is (if you can get it) and it may be a low RPM torquer grind as my 2.4l engine had so it doesn't need to rev to 7K or some other unobtainable limit to do it's job. If you still have the stock FI system you can't get much over 6K in usable power anyways and the lack of having to adjust valves is nice.
