grasshopper?
thought that might get your attention, at least, bowlsbys attention...
i received my panorama yesterday and read the article on the 914 written by allen caldwell. he mentions the 1974 limited production of the LE models and states they came in black with yellow accents and white with red accents but doesn't mention the white with green accents..... hmmmm, no grasshopper? the elusive grasshopper.... |
Well maybe he should review all reputable sources? The porsche.com website on the 1974 914s, Brian Longs book...maybe others that don't come to my mind immediately...
Any one given source may not be all inclusive...;) |
Well, since I personally know at least three people who claim to have seen Grasshoppers in person, I would place a high degree of confidence in the notion that they did exist at one time!
One of those guys saw one come into a body shop that also worked on his cars. The owner wanted it painted all black--he thought the Grasshopper paint scheme was ugly, and they couldn't convince him otherwise. :( --DD |
I saw a grasshopper in Bollingreen Ky. back in the early 80's
but then I didn't know what it was. I knew about the BB and CC. I thought some one just painted it that way. I own 4 BB's, 2 with consetive serial numbers. I restored a CC a few years ago and sold it to one of my customers a little over a year ago. I am now restoring a BB. There is a pic of a BB and CC being restored. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1102739551.jpg |
Yes, I saw one a long time ago (70's) and I have seen the LE ad where all three are sitting in a row.

Hey about that LE trimvirate Geoff, I was wondering...do you recall:
Was it an ad...did it have text and Porsche-Audi and any other graphics? Maybe descriptive or pricing information? Or was it a plain photo only without any text or any markings? Not that I have seen one yet...but its definitely on my list of things to find... I am guessing that it was not from any magazine and not an ad, otherwise it would show up on ebay like all the other USA 914 ads. Unless it was an ad placed in some obscure place like 'Popular Crosstitching' magazine which seems highly unlikely. I wonder if it was a special poster given out only at the auto shows similar to the 914GT Bumblebee poster I have. Or maybe it was a factory publicity photo given out at the dealers. I wonder what size it was...smallish-5x7 or 8x10? Largish-16x20 or 30x40? One will surface somewhere...someday...keep the faith |
