engine swap?

the e-mail I got with this says the guy tried to pass some cars in Topanga Canyon and lost it... ended up with 35 staples in his head. Anyhow, the S2000 engine would be hot in a 914. Long way from here, though. http://www.pixelsmack.com/Jims_S2/index.htm

Topanga Ess got another one.

A couple of years back they pulled a bunch of cars out of the cayon.
They had them stacked in a lot across from the Post Office.
Some had been down in the stream bed for over twenty years.
They also solved a few missing persons.
Some of the wrecks were found only because of this clean up, No one even knew they were down there.
On the week end there is a crash every couple of hours.
Several of my friends have been in head ons in the canyon.

It's actually not a VTEC Honda engine in the Elise, but the Toyota Celica VVTL engine.

yup. what a sweet deal for Toyota, although it is a bit surprising to me since Yodas have a history of under-powered production engines. The Mr2, like the 914 was plagued by lack-a-pony-izm (say it fast). At least it will run for 200,000 mi...and the Elise weighs nothing. I saw one in Norway 3-4 years ago and fell in LOVE. It was Orange and black, parked by a 500 yr old church

Jason, i've seen an Elise that was converted with a Honda Vtec installed by a company in Texas. Where is the Toyota conversion done?

Hopefully they reworked the Toyota a bit for the Lotus. My experience with it in a Celica S was that the power didn't come on until about 6 grand, and the redline was 7,800, so as soon as you hit the next gear you were below peak again. The Honda S2000 I drove (2 liter, not the new 2.2) came on closer to 5,500 and pulled like hell to ~9 grand. It was a screamer.

I dont think the S2000 motor would fit in the 914 bay...

One thing that would be really neat would be the old supercharged Toyota 4AG.

I'm guilty of crashing in the canyons too. Mullholland killed my old 320is.

The company started with an "A", didn't it? They used B18C1 engines from the Integra GS-R, or possibly the B18C5 from the Integra Type R. 195 HP out of a 1.8 liter, whoa!! Not a whole lot of torque (~135 lb-ft at peak, I think?) but in a really lightweight car... I kinda wish Lotus had continued with Honda power, as I haven't heard that much positive press about the 'Yota mill...

Aaah, whatever. I can't afford any of them anyway...

Yeah, no $hit...The S2000 is great. Ben here at work has one, and I took it through its paces one day, full throttle lap around El Segundo, and it was a wonderful drive. The control drift at 50MPH in the rain was probably the best part

Dave, i saw the Honda powered car when i worked at the Ellsworths shop, and don't know any specifics besides being a VTEC Honda motor done by a co in texas.

Theres also a guy who lives in San Luis who has two of them, one a completely raced out monster... so i'll ask him next time about the engine options.
