Need Input on PCA!

Need Your Input on PCA national and local chapters. I was wondering what your impression was on PCA in general and your local chapter in particular?

Do any of you get involved in the events?

What do you think of PANORAMA?

How about your chapter’s monthly mag?

What would you like to see PCA national and regional chapters change?

PCA in general....good/great.

I am involved in autocross, I do the tech inspections, and some of the charity events.

Pano is good, but I"m in Vancouver Island Region in Canada, I get my January issue in the first or second week of February and so on and so forth for the last 10 years or so.

My regions monthly newsletter 'The Poscher' is a PCA award winner, its pretty darn good for our regions size. People dont realize how much it cost to put one out every month, in a small region.

Change national? Where should I start.... As a former Membership Chair, I would like to see them get their membership database straightened out, its shameful for an organization of its size.

Did I mention when I get my Pano, in Pano is a section for upcoming events its practically out dated when I get the mag. But hey I'm in Canada.....a whole other country, sheesh

Change regional? why, last year we had the highest factored growth, top three newsletter, gave maybe $6-7k (somewhere in there)to charity. Were doing OK.

I have been a PCA member for about ten years. I joined in order to get Panorama, their monthly magazine (which is terrific, by the way), but never went to any PCA events since most of my time is spent with 356 Registry events.

A couple of years ago I went to my PCA region's summer picnic to see if their events were any fun. When I got there, I saw a number of people that I knew, but they were so busy polishing their cars that they couldn't socialize. Then the judging started. We couldn't socialize then, either, because they were carefully watching the judges look over their cars. Then it was time for lunch. Great, we had about a half hour of B.S.ing but then they announced the winners and handed out trophies.

I figured now was the time for eveyone to let their guard down and have some fun. Nope. After the trophies were handed out, they all got into their cars and drove away!!!!

They are very serious about what they do and seem to enjoy it immensley, but I enjoy the interaction with fellow Porsche owners more than anything.

To each his own.

I have been active in the local AXing for a couple of years which is great fun!
Gone to some other events too, but standing around polishing my car without talking to anyone is boring.

JP you didnt mention what kind of cars the polishers drive.;) Sound like a bunch of CW's:rolleyes: Our show n shines are the same but we do them for charity in public settings, and let the spectators do the judging.
Thats what I like about AX, its run what ya brung, looking good wont win an AX.

Hey LubeMaster, why do you ask?

I'm a member of both PCA & SCCA.

I got involved in autocross thru the PCA 5-6 years ago and our AXs are a fun type event. 2005 finds me as AX chair. I'm not sure how that happened, but 2006 brings ORPCA the Parade. I may be impeached in 2006 1/2 ....what, me worry? :D

The SCCA is much more orientated towards racing & the technical side of cars.....which I like, being a gearhead. The Ax folks are also the nicest bunch of folks I've ever come across.

Everything I need from Pano is in upfixen' vols 4 thru 9.
Pano used to be invaluable (prior to the internet) for the classifieds and technical articles. Now, it's a 1 hour read....kinda like People. I assume it will get less relavent
with the intro of a 4 door Porsche

Woops brainfart, sorry JP it wasnt you that commented about the CW's, and by type of car I meant type of Porsche.

I was at Parade in '95 I hope to meet you in '06. Wouldn't miss it for the world...well maybe my car at least.. When I told my wife 'we' were going, she said "I'm sure you and you're car will have a nice time."

Thats the other thing LubeMaster.. Parade, one of my best memories is from 95 in Portland. I brought home a pic of me in my 914 signed buy Peter Porsche. It was pretty cool just talking to him, then I remembered I had just picked up the pics of the drivers ed. and asked if he would sign it. Have it hung on the wall in my office, people come in and ask if its me then ask who signed it. You can tell who's interested in cars at that point.

Kinda neat for a young guy(26) who had just got his first Porsche.

Ya its worth it, Parade is really cool.

I rejoined last year. Man, am I the poor kid in that bunch! And they got the purties... 996s, gt-2, RUF Boxter S, etc. Most of 'em have more than one. And a couple have pepper wagons to go with the 2-doors. And they are shiney. But everybody drives HARD. AXs, DEs, even fun runs are fast & fun! And almost every one of 'em had a 914 somewhere in their p-car past. They like my car a lot. Most of 'em wish they still had something simple like the 914. I've enjoyed the dinners, parties, tech sessions, etc. Ours is a very tech oriented group, so the CW types are more around the fringes, and I think after awhile get converted...
