V8 exhaust pictures
Here's some pics of my new exhaust system. Mufflers are Flowmasters. Sounds pretty damn good. Please ignore those crooked '914' and '2.0' on the back - how embarassing. They are coming off. My reflector got broken, so I put the emblems in the holes (they had been stuck on a piece-of-crap rear spoiler) and noticed whoever drilled the holes got them crooked. Go figure. The Porsche emblem on the hood was two inches off center too.
I now have the lower valence cleared for the mufflers and mounted on, but still need to weld up the original stock exhaust cutout.

Hey Sean - do these pictures of internal pipes and rear ends fit your definition of 'car porn'?

Guy,
They did a nice clean installation. I like the hangers they used & the way they mounted them w/out drilling extra holes in the body.

I agree... nice install! I'll have to come over for a listen.
Did you decide what to do with the springs?

Very nice, but the engine is awfully low to the ground -- is it lifted in yet? If not, I'd watch those speedbumps!

The sway bar links look wrong to me too...shouldn't they be above the pin on the rear shock?

Daniel, yes it's low. Still has original stock springs. Stiffer 180# springs are next. Probably new shocks too. The money hemorrage never ends. I'd defiinitely like it higher. (I got used to it without a motor in it). I didn't bother sweating the details on the the sway bar since the springs have to come out. It was easier pressing on the new bushings that way.

Guy I just put a new set of headers on my car 3" all the way to the rear.
Must be the redneck in me but I kind of like them. I may have some 180lb springs I'll look tonight.

Bob, looks like you gave just enough clearance to your axle when you jack up the car, right? I get a little more length up over the top but probably insignificant for sound reduction. Would be interested in the springs. Thanks...

Guy, Bob,
Those both look awesome! That's some nice work. I can just imagine what that sounds like. Guy - you have to stop by my place if you're ever in Phoenix with that beast. Damn Bob - how wide are those tires? Couldn't tell from pics if you have flares or not. How about a side pic? I especially like the 2.0 emblem on the back - nice touch - that should wake a few Corvettes up. PS: Just a thought - is the rear sway bar better suited to the V8 than the fours? Enjoy!

I followed Bob around Atlanta, Ga. a few weeks ago. His exhaust sounded great, drew a crowd everywhere we went and sounded really sweet when traveling through a underpass.

A few shots of mine using "S" pipes and shorter headers.

My mufflers end just shy of valance to prevent cutting and also to hide fact there is a v8 in car. After seeing Bob's in person, I may just have to go for that design if I ever get away from the sleeper look.

John, looks good. Are those the Renegade headers? The ones I have fit a Chevy truck so the flange is about even with the back of the block. Not ideal but the exhaust shop did a good job working with it. My mufflers clear the valence by about 1/4", I just had to cut holes for the outlets. The bottom third or so of the muffler is visible underneath. I could paint it high-temp black and it won't be so noticeable.

Headers are Renegade as well as "S" pipes. The setup clears all obstacles and mufflers tuck in out of the way.

S pipes provide good clearance around oil filter, starter, cv joints and shift linkage.
