alternator

just had my alternator rebuilt and i think i recieved the wrong one back. i am having problems installing the back-plate. on the one i recieved back, there is a step in the case, and i believe there should be a flat surface for the back plate to attach to. is there more than one alternator for the 914? mine is off a 74' 2.0 . does anyone have a picture of the back side of the alternator to confirm my fears?

thanks swk

If you mean that the cooling tin won't fit on the alt then it's possible you have a 912E unit. If memory serves, my 912E alt has the step you talk about, and I think the whole thing was bigger than the 914/bus unit. That's another possiblity, you got a late model bus unit, I don't know what they look like.

I think it was the 356 "Maestro" who stated "Lucas' law of electrical components": "Never return the core, until you go home and make sure the replacement part fits, and is correct."
