EMPI wheels......VW?

Does anyone know if wheels from a 1968 type 1 vw have the same bolt pattern as a 1975 914?? I have a chance to get a great deal on a set of EMPI's. If not, maybe somewhere I can get some information on this? thanks for your help

I believe (not sure!) that a 68 Bug would have a five-bolt pattern. Our 914 uses the four-bolt pattern which was also used by the later Bugs. Note that Bug wheels sit further out away from the center of the car than 914 wheels, so you stand a good chance of not being able to fit anything wider than a 165-width tire under stock fenders if you use a Bug wheel.

Thanks Dave..................the bug wheel is a 4 bolt pattern. I wonder what the offset is on the empi wheel.

Steve,

The bolt pattern is the same. They do fit a 914. You can pick up a set pretty cheaply these days. I've seen them go for as little as $80 in fair condition... about $180 a set is more typical.

Do you know if the offset on the empi is different than the stock 914? I am concerned about my limitations on tires.

thanks John

EMPI style wheels on a 914

I have run them on all of my 914s during the past 30 years with no problems. Here is a picture of a genuine EMPI on the front of my '76 914. Good luck.

I ran 195-50-15 BF Goodrich and 195-55-15 Sumitomo and Yokohama 205-50-15 HR03 . all on VW Empi that came off of my 70 Ghia. REAL EMPI wheels are 3 pc expensive and rare. The commonly available one pc are EMPI imitation. I had the more common imitations on my 914 and Ghia
