Tranny input shaft seal replacement
 

Anyone have any tricks for getting the old tranny input shaft seal out? Sucker's really in there.

Just did one... I used a 3/8 extension and
banged the to of the seal inward. This caused the bottom of the seal to push out a little. It also caused the whole seal to loosen, I then used a large screwdrive to leverage the bottom of the seal outward.
Be careful not to knick the case.

Lube up the new seal with synthetic grease and push it into place. I had a piece of 12" PVC pipe that fit over the input shaft and matched the size of the seal. I used this to push the new seal into place.

Thanks for the tip Joe. Didn't go quite that smoothly for me though!

I got the 3/8 extension and rapped on the seal. The thing was so hard that it didn't make the bottom push out. Instead, it pushed the whole seal backward into the diff housing!

AAARRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!

Anyway, I took the diff cover off and cut the old seal off the input shaft. Only took an hour or so for the whole ordeal and the unplanned inspection revealed that the diff, crownwheel, and pinion are in beautiful shape!
