Unhappy fuel pump

have a 1974 914-1.8 with L-jetronic fuel injection,ran fine,parked one night,next morning it wouldn't start !. can not here the fuel pump run. stupid question: can't find the fuel pump! where is it ? thanks!

The fuel pump on a 1.8 does not run until the starter is engaged, unlike the 1.7 and 2.0.

From the factory it was located underneath the battery tray. You'd see it if you were to jack up the car and look from beneath. However, many cars have had the fuel pump relocated to the front trunk area like the factory did in later model years to prevent starting problems. Steve

"Under the battery tray" sort of, but don't think it's in the upper engine compartment. Lay on the ground and look just ahead of the RR wheel. It is tucked up in the corner of the engine bay; might be obscured by the right side heater ductwork if it is still there.

Quick check to see if the pump/relay works. Turn the key on, then push open the vane in the air flow meter. This should make the relay close and the pump come on. There are a number of different things on the 1.8 that can cause the pump not to run, but start there.
