From the factory? No.

From the factory? None; any & all 914's that have A/C had it installed at the dealership.

Two types of units/manufacturers were installed, DPD or VPC; the VPC system is preferred.

Rouser,

Thanks for your reply.

Was it a common dealer installed item.

I would like to buy a geniune 914/6 and am starting to look for one but i hope to get one with air cond or in the alternative buy the aftermarket air and install it.

Thanks

Michael

Usually it was done very poorly and the result today is a car with less value.

Check out European Cooler Air. Others on this board have had them install a/c in their teeners.

Michael,
If ALL you're concerned about is resale, as Geoff says it's a loser but some of us don't care. I turned my 40k mile original 6 into a race car. (Please don't stone me).
We have done A/C on a 914/6 and other than clearance for the compressor at the firewall and adding an auxiliary oil cooler system it's a very straight forward job. Expensive but straight forward.
If it's a matter of not owning a collector car because it simply isn't practical or owning one that has been modified from stock so that it can be enjoyed all season I'll always recommend the latter. Take the hit. You only live on this planet once.
The $200k in drivability mods that Bruce Canepa does to the Holy Grail of street driven Porsches- the 959 is a good example of that philosophy.
What good is a car that can't be driven comfortably in the desert during the summer?
Be comfortable and keep the wife happy. That's what I'm talk'n about.

Frank,

thanks for your thoughtfull insight. I have slowly grown to like the looks of the 914/6 and as I have a stuffed right leg which requires me to sit as close to the ground as possible (ie leg straight out like in a go kart not dropping like in a VW Kombi). even my 911s are not good for the daily commute of 60 miles round trip.

So time has come the wife will end up with either my SC or a new cayene and i will get a 914/6.

So if you knows of a 914/6 that is for sale let me know. I would prefer to buy one that needs work so that i can put in the little mods that will make it nicer to live with on a daily basis.

Regards

Michael

Hi Michael,
There is a lot of good guys at 914club.com who may be able to help locate what you are looking for.

Seems many of the sixes have rust issues (much as the fours really) and those that don't seem to be asking lots of money.

Is converting a four on the cards, or is restoring a six more fun?

Good luck in the search.

I really want a six.

I have been down the four to six conversion on a 912 and i would prefer not to do that again.

I think for the money I will spend on fixing a four it should be the same as a six but one would think that in fifteen years time when and if i sell then the six will be worth a bit more even with aircond.

I had a look on the website 914CLUB.com but there did not seem to be any 6s there that had been advertised recently.

I also have to figure out how I will arrange for someone else to look at any potential purchase as I am on the wrong side of the pond.

I am sure I remember one of the guys at A Porscheapart in Melbourne telling me that he would probably sell his six fairly recently. I definitely remember him saying it was still LHD which is probably beter for an original six - but I have a feeling it has been stripped. Bought my six conversion already converted to RHD - I think it would be pretty difficult to justify the expense of a RHD conversion on a 914 now days.

Michael. Good evening I have a couple of 914-6 conversions at Camp 914. Please note the six conversion is as close to a real six that you are going to get without having to pay the price of a real six.
You can see a couple that I sold at http://www.camp914.com
I will be posting pics of the others next week.
I have details on others that are not at CAMP 914 yet but are available for sale.

oops, there is a period after the word com that is confusing the browser, remove it and you're fine.
