what's it worth?

I have noticed in the past that a few of the members have made some remarks about ebay. What¡¦s the deal with this? Is it poor etiquette to sell on ebay? I¡¦m about to list a ¡¦71 1.7, and I was wondering where the best place to do this was and what I should ask.

The car has a pretty much perfect bright green paint job with no body damage. I have empi wheels, new tires, braded steel brake hoses, new brake pads, very good interior, all working electrical, chrome bumpers, driving lights, FM blaupunkt radio, dual horns, dual exhaust, new plugs, new plug wires, new points, stainless heat exchangers, and a recently rebuilt FI system including three new injectors. I can put some pictures up soon. I know I'll never get out what I have put in, but I found a '76 2.0 with a sideshifter that I am dying to get started on.

So what do you think, ball park?

Ballpark? Start @ $3.5K and see where it goes from there.

If it's clean, with a clear title, you might get some bites.

Good questions. As far as eBay is concerned I've had no problems with it both buying and selling. Some people have. For cars I'm squeamish. I'd be more likely to sell one than buy one. This week I am picking up a 74 914 from someone here that bought it off eBay. He paid $4500 for it last year and I'm buying it for $1750. The seller on ebay was not completely honest about the condition. If the car is as good as you describe it, and no hidden rust, I'd probably ask at least $3 k for it as a starting price on ebay.

I'm in the same position since I have to sell some 1.8L engine parts - in the classifieds here and on the other T4 sites, people expect you to give them a selling price but I don't really know what the parts are worth so it's probably easier to put the parts on ebay - plus I think you reach a larger audience with ebay.
