Gear box problem :(

The car has been sitting in the garage for about half year, but I during the time I often start the car and drove it back and forth in my drive way (sounds stupid because the car is not insured)

This morning I start the car and I notice some weird thing with the gear box. I was trying to reverse the car out of the garage. I step on the clutch then hit the reverse gear, and suddently the gear box grinds. Later on I found out that if I don't hit the reverse right after I press the clutch, I could engage reverse gear without problem.

This never happens before.

1. Engage reverse right after I press the clutch = GRINDS!!!

2. Step on the clutch, and wait for 2 seconds = SOOMTH!!!

What is wrong here??? any suggestions?

Thanks for the help!!!

well i know WHY its making the sound....the reverse gear isnt "sync'd" to the input shaft...so when they dont meet the dogteeth grind on the widget that connects to the whatever...mine does it too though. you just have to be real super duper easy with these guys.

Suggested I need a new sync. ?So do I need to get the whole gear box rebuild?

you'd think he'd know that by now, he's driven the car plenty of times before without the problem... :)

have you checked the clutch cable tube? it could be broken or loose......

not enough oil in the tranny ???
clutch adjustment off? clutch tube lose? pedal assembly bushings worn out?

About a years ago the clutch tube was loose and I got it fixed. I was thinking about the tube might get loose again...would that be possible?

anything is possible, depends on how good the repair was..

Is there any rust on the brake rotors? If so I'll bet there is rust on the flywheel some too and it needs to be driven to clean things off?
