I don't know Brad except by his posts here and on the other board.
I do know the surreal pain and desperation of unjust and undeserved incarceration and interogation. ( I was jailed for two days in the late 70's because I fit the physical description of a multiple murder suspect and drove the same year and color vw as one seen leaving the crime scene.)
For those of us who regard personal integrity as our most valuable asset there is no pain greater then having it unjustly questioned , especially in public .
Brad should take great comfort from the support shown by his friends on this board. Friends are more valuable then gold when you are down.
Hopefully, for all involved, this all will turn out to be a series of misunderstandings with no criminal intent.

Thom, okay PNA didnt exist but didn't Porsche exist? I am sure the USA has had some sort of International agreement about stolen goods coming to the USA. If it was stolen off their lot then there must be a report but heck that would be hard to locate! If Porsche claims ownership then its theirs and you can't steal stolen property and be held libel for it!

Bleyseng,
With all do respect, Porsche would have to do a LOT more than simply claim ownership...
I agree that if the car was stolen, then they MIGHT have some claim to the car. However, it could also be argued that they had knowlege of the location of the car in the past, and simply ignored or denied its existance...
There are most likely some statute of limitations issues as well....
However, in respect to Brad, the total history of the car is still not completely known. I think that it would be very difficult to prove that Brad knew that the car was stolen from Porsche when he aquired it, considering the story is still not clear at this time...

I do want to make it clear that Brad has my support.

However I still would like to know how they were able to incarcerate him for an extended period of time without charging him... Does his accuser have connections with the local authorities? Do we know if Brad has adequate representation - (Meaning a hired gun, and not court appointed) ?

Andy, feel free to answer some questions, so we don't keep
speculating... We just want to know that Brad is being well taken care of -

Regards,

Thom

Brad info

Brad will be arraigned today in Joshua Tree California. He does have an attorney. He was transferred to San Bernadino County (Rancho Cucamonga)Wed. night. IF....this goes past today he will be at the detention center in Rancho and taken to Joshua Tree for further trial dates. It is my understanding that during his arrest the investigators were asked about the proof of ownership from the guy who started this. They said that they had not received it yet.So......yes.....he was and has been incarcerated without proof. Yes....we suspect the accuser has connections, but guess what.......so do we. Andy will be notified this evening about the arraignment outcome. He will probably post the outcome on here as well as the 914club.com site. There is more info on the 914club.com site. Thanks for your support and help. Dad Roberts

This is beyond belief that Brad was arrested for a car he HAS a title for and this a914collector can't ever show the police a title for it.
Someone has played there friends in high places card here but that will in the future burn some pretty fingers.

I have recieved some emails from a old Porsche employee who says Porsche never knew where the car went to other than is came to the USA as far as they knew. It was to be destroyed but was stolen, shipped to the US and disappeared. Porsche might be interested in it or release its interest.

just FYI, bail was lowered to $50k, which is the book value for this type of charge ...

now we're working on getting him out on bail ...

OK, Wayne, we go way back. If I'm out of line by posting this message here let me know or trash it.

This is a weekend Rally! Ok, We've done this before. The time is now. 914 guys know how to rally around a cause.

I'm going to tell you all why I hang at the 914 club. It would be easy to sell my car and move on to an other project or other interest. But it's the people there that keep me coming back EVERY DAY!

I've never seen a group of people come together for an other person like you all did when Dave needed us.

There are countless numbers of you that have had the benifit of the group coming together to help assemble your car or get you out of a jam, off the freeway, or simply just be there on this BBS when you had a family crisis and just needed someone to listen.

Think about why that club BBS exsists. He started it. He is the reason. He is the man. Without his vision we would be spread out everywhere and most of us wouldn't even have these cars anymore. The guys in the business of selling 914 parts would be few and far between.

Now's the time people. It's Brad's turn. I'm calling you out. This time it's for Brad. I want everyone to look inside yourself. I want everyone to think what the 914 community is like. I want everyone to think about what Brad's devotion to the 914 means to you. I want everyone to thank Brad this weekend.

I'm here this weekend in the 914 club garage. I have my tools with me. I keep them in my hip pocket. I'm reaching into my pocket this weekend and I'm offering my friend my help. Monday morning I want my friend back with me.

Thank you Pelican for allowing me to post.

I'm a curious sort and I appreciate the info about this deal. The "no talk" rule on the Club site just stirs the imagination for us that don't check in so much. It certainly is a complicated affair, and that can lead to the misinformation that is dreaded. Everyone has behaved like the gentlemen they are.

Much ado about an old rusty car, IMHO. Hope it gets cleared up quickly.
