Yeah baby! I like it when the little things work out.
Just got my VR6 last week and it looks nice and clean plus all of the electrical connections and hoses have been disconnected properly. I bought a motorcycle jack to help install the motor and figured I could use an engine crane as well so today I phone around and the local parts place has a 2-ton folding crane on sale for $200 CAD (normally $350). Woo hoo!

Only from Mueller's pictures and information that he posted on the 914Club last year. I'm on the laptop and don't have that thread bookmarked. The height of the engine is about 28 inches from the bottom of the oil pan to the top of the engine cover so I going to have to remove the rain tray to make the motor fit. Stock, my motor has 172hp at 5800 rpm and 173 ft*lbs of torque at 4200 rpm. I just got a good deal on a used GIAC chip and it is supposed to increase both hp and torque by about 10. The chip also raises the rev limit to about 7000 rpm. I'm also going to add a cold air intake and that may be good for some hp too. I used to thing that a CAI was just a gimmick but then I read a test in EuroTuner magazine that showed you can pick another nine hp or so with one in a GTI. With a good exhaust I could get close to 200 hp from the motor. Not bad for $2100 CAD (plus exhaust).

Good luck on your conversion. The first one is always a challenge and a learning curve. The second one will be much easier. Where's some pics?

Scott, "to each his own" as the saying goes. It would be rather unusual, though, to get a hp increase by adding just a more aggressive cam to an otherwise stock motor. I'm sure your teener will be a lot of fun with the Subaru motor just like my car will be if I can make the VR6 fit. The VR6 has been on Ward's Ten Best Engines list and I believe it won Popular Science magazine's "Best of What's New" award back in the early nineties. In the reviews that I have read, the VR6 has been universally praised for its smoothness and the linear way that it produces power plus it sounds great. I also like the "DOHC" on the engine cover. I'll try to post some pics of my VR6 tomorrow.

Here are some pictures of my VR6 and my cat, Willy, who was feeling a little under the weather that day.
