Engine "stumble" at 3500 RPM

I have a '74 2.0 L with a stock engine except for pointless ingnition.

Here's the situation. I just replaced the vacuum advance unit on the dizzy (thanks PP) and got the engine running fairly well. Actually, its running as well as it ever has with one problem though. When accelerating hard the engine stumbles from 3500 RPM on up. Before I changed to pointless ignition, this problem was corrected by resetting the point gap (dwell). Now with a Pertronix Ignitor I am having trouble getting the "gap" correct. I used the feeler guage sent with the ignitor and this did not solve the problem. By the way, the ignitor is only a few hundred miles old.

Any ideas or thoughts on the matter would be appriciated.

Did you set the timing with the vacuum advance disconnected?

RACEJOE-
I did disconnect the vac. advance. I have read so many things about timing, that I am a little confused though. When setting the timing on a 2.0 L, am I supposed to disconnect the vac. advance? And am I supposed to plug the nipple and hose while setting the timing?

Thanks for any and all help.
