Dual carb fine tuning

I have a freshly rebuilt 2.0 with an eagle racing cam, new flat tops and dual weber 40's. I am having trouble with the carbs a little. I bought a Gunson and tuned them using it and now it runs strong with no cutting out or dead spots but it still coughs a little up through the carbs and doesnt idle well when it warms up. Is it too rich or too lean?

What type of distributor? If it is a 009 then it could be the advance causing the spitting but I think it probably the cams. If they have much intake/exhaust overlap then you'll get the spitting and popping and rough idle, especially if you have the idle mixture close to the 14 to 1 ratio. If you richen it to 13 to 1 or so at idle then the spitting might go away? But hey, that's what race cams are supposed to do.

Triple check your intake valve clearances... maybe go a mm over, even?
