Alignment Specifications
Ok all, I just bought a set of Yokohama AVS intermediates 205/60/15 to replaces my old hard as rock touring yokos of the same size, and I am installing the 19mm welstmeister sway bar. I have the 165 lbs. progressive rate rear springs, so the car sits lower than stock, I have the bumpsteer kit installed. So anyways on Friday I am going to have the tires installed and a four wheel alignment done, my question is this: For aggressive street driving, and ocassional autocrossing what alignement settings should I use front and rear? keep in mind I only drive this car when it is nice and the goal is to set it up for handling.

If you want to fly around corners try:
front neg 1.5 deg camber, 0 toe in, rear neg 1.5 deg camber, 1/8 in. toe in. Note: the 0 toe in the front will make the car twitch and hunt going over bumps, so 1/8 in. toe in may be better. The tires will wear fast, but you'll turn well. |
I suggest going with about a half-degree less negative camber in the front than in the rear. That is, the front would be a half-degree closer to zero camber.
Somewhere between a degree and 1.5 degrees negative camber in the rear, and between 0.5 to 1.0 degrees in the front. Max caster in front. about 1/8" toe in at the rear, and about 1/16" toe in at the front. The hint of front toe-in promotes a more stable-feeling car. It isn't as good for initial turn-in as a bit of toe-out, but the transitions are not as important on the street as on the autocross course. The slightly less aggressive alignment will be a bit kinder to the tires. --DD |
