I got the Viton seals. Jake Raby recomends putting oil on the seals and push and twist. His video was great for reference.

Go to Napa and buy some Permatex PTFE thread/joint sealing compound - the kind in a little bottle with a brush in the cap. Spread that stuff liberally on the seals and install without any additional oil etc. Jake recommends this method also and I tried it on my engine last time I changed the seals - no leaks!

well,

i got my first pushrod tube out, put new o rings on it, oiled it up with just regular motor oil, tried to put it back in and it won't even come close. i'm pushing on it real hard but it won't pop back into place. it got too frustrating so i quit for tonight before it beat it up! will the permetex or the other stuff make it go back in better than oil or do i need more muscle??

I tried to use a spare set of pushrod tubes off a motor I tore down and I had the same problem. I ended up throwing out the tubes and using the ones that came with my motor. For some reason the (aftermarket?) tubes were a slightly different diameter!!

The Viton o-rings are a tight fit even if you have OEM tubes. You have to push them in at the right angle and sometimes you need to help the seal seat correctly by using a soft tool (not a sharp screwdriver) to push the o-ring into place as you insert the tube.
