Oil Temperature Gauge
Does anyone know of an aftermarket oil temperature gauge that works with the factory sending unit?

I know that VDO makes gages that will work. However, the new VDO gages are smaller.
Q. Why not use the stock gage and the stock sender??? |

I built the car for vintage racing. I took the multigauge and speedo out. I rebuilt the dash is aluminum and only used the original tach. I put in mechanical oil pressure gauge, oil pressure warning light, etc. I have not put in a oil temp gauge yet and have been concerned about oil temp. I run a Mazda RX7 oil cooler, so it should not be a problem, but why take a chance. If a VDO gauge will work, that would be good. Thanks.

VDO makes a very nice gauge set called their "Cockpit Series" with black face, white numbers and red pointer that complements the stock Porsche gauges very nicely. Combine the oil temp gauge with a matching sending unit that is a direct replacement of your stock sender in the bottom of the case, and you will be good to go.

I bought the VDO Cockpit style 300 deg F temp gauge and also bought a VDO 300 deg F sender to fit the stock oil temp threads (M14x1.5) The VDO # for the sending unit is 323 055 I bought mine thru racesearch.com they have a lot to offer and have very good prices.

They made more than a few VDO gauges for VW and Porsche applications....you would be well served to get a matching sender and gauge....they made a lot in different temps and ratings....I would definitely NOT try to use a gauge with an unknown sender....
