which venturi size?
I have a 2.0L with Weber 44IDFs. Ive driven the car from Florida to Colorado and have experienced very low engine power below about 2500RPMs. Im running 36mm venturis and fear they are too big. I wonder if anyone has any suggestions for venturi size at 5000 feet altitude? I know a smaller venturi will decrease high rpm power, but I would like more down low. Thanks for any ideas and suggestions!

There are a couple of regulars on this BB that live in Colorado and have carb set ups on their cars. Pete Dubler has a '75 1.8 liter with carbs, as I recall. I am sure they will offer their expertise.

Hi Ben -
Scott S From Colorado here. I run a similar set up in my 72, 2.o, dual 44's with an MSD. I don't know my main jet sizes, but I recently had to bump up the idle jets to a .055. I don't know how my car compares to other 914's, but a carbed car (any car) at sea level will need to be leaned out up here as we don't have any air. I took my fuel injected GTI to an autocross in AZ when I was in college. I couldn't believe the difference in power. The same thing happens to my work truck (97 hummer). We have a trade show in Vegas once a year and the thing feels like an Indy car compared to being at home. Where did you move to? I am in the Lakewood/Golden area. Welcome to the neighborhood. I will pull the main jets tonight and drop you a line. Scott S |
