Injectors leaking then stopped.
When starting a 1972 1.7L 914 after 3 months of sitting, the rear left and rear right injectors were found to be leaking from around the plastic seal area. The left was leaking enough to spill gas onto the driveway - scary! The engine was shut off immediately. After clean up engine was started again, this time the left was just dripping but the right was leaking more. Again leaks are confirmed around the plastic area, not the hose connections.
When the car was started the next day neither side was leaking. It has been that way for several days with out any leaks. I am reluctant to drive the car until I know what was going on. Did the pressure regulator malfunction during the initial start up because it sat for so long? Were the injectors plugged/gummed up and then got themselves cleaned? I have on order used injectors but are not sure what to do. Should I replace the two suspect injectors? Anyone ever experience this? If so what is going on? Thanks jjs3rd914 |
From what I understand here, they were leaking, but not now, and everything works?
Replace the o-rings. -shrug- Yes, with a 944, and a fuel pump relay that stuck ON. I had to buy a 12x18' parking lot. M |
There were no fuel leaks up until the car was started after sitting for 3 months. The two injectors leaked but after several engine starts/stops, they stopped leaking. Now everthing seems fine. As I said they never leaked before, but why now and why did it stop? Could it start again while driving creating a definite fire hazard?
I plan on replacing the o-rings and will substitute injectors if needed. Thanks for the reply. |
