fiberglass bumpers
Does anybody have any experience with the stock like fiberglass front and rear bumpers? I understand the GT came with them and some racers like to make the switch for weight. Do they look like crap...for a street car I mean. How's the fit and finish? Do they just scream "cheap fiberglass!"
I've got a '75 and I'd like to do a retrograde to the 70-74 style. I've been lurking for a chrome set but cost is of course an issue — also the piss poor wear that those rubber tops always seem to have scares me off. My other 914s always had cracked and wavy ones. kevin atlanta, ga |

I used to have a fiberglass rear bumper of my 1974 2.0L. Was looking Ok, and was painted black. If your like the painted look, i saw no real difference. Finish was smooth and plain, good material, thick enough.
I changed it because i like the chromed bumper with bumperettes look better. Hope it helped. |

On my SAAB SONNET the bumpers are black hard rubber which looked ugly!! I bougth a set from Jack Ashcroft who has fiberglass bummpers they look the same, but they will not go wavy like the hard rubber did. I wonder if good looking repos. of the bumper tops done in fiberglass would be a sellable item?
