V8 flywheel disaster!!!
Not that bad really.
I just replaced the clutch on my 914 V8 and found some major stuff wrong. The old clutch disc was hitting the flywheel bolts. I sized up the new one and it looked like it was going to clear them with room to spare so I went ahead with the install. What I did not know was that the flywheel had been improperly machined and the pressure plate is too far from the clutch surface and it still slips like crazy. Is there a way to save it? I would like to replace the flywheel but I am not sure if a new one will work with my setup. The flywheel seems to be a Porsche part but uses a Chevy starter attached with a small adapter plater. How is the flywheel bolted to the crank? Is there an adapter there too? I can't find any I.D. on the tranny adapter plate so I have no idea who made it. I can say it looks pretty old maybe 80's vintage. Ideas? If I where to replace the flywheel who makes one where I can still use my brand new 911 clutch? I'm on a budget!! Thanks Alex |

Kennedy Engineering. Call them up and tell them what you have and what you want to do. THey are more than helpful. They will also have everything you need and they will be less than you expect. Is your old one the 200mm or 215mm or 225mm or 228mm. I am running the 9" which is the 228mm. It is the one Renegade sells and Kennedy makes them as well.

I called them!! Great folks. I am bringing a core flywheel to them next week and will be all set up for not too much. They made the original kit for the conversion way back and knew exactly what I needed.
