Front side light alternative.
My car is turning out to be anything but stock. I am curious if anyone has seen an alternative light that looks good on the front fenders, rather than the somewhat out of place round marker lights. Thanks

I dig the side marker light on the rear fenders of a 2001 F350 duallie(sp) . Very subtle IMHO.
|
jetta side markers look sweet too... small little ovals... seen 1-2 teeners do this conversion...
IMHO, though, what I really dig... is NO side marker, just smooth the hole over... nice. |
I used the newer VW side markers for this project.

those are the 'jetta style I was referring to... :) nice work!!
|
None. works for me shave them off...

I agree with you Scott. I just don't feel like doing the work. We still need to get together. Shame on us for living so close together and not comparing notes. I think I want to sell my original orange ' 75 if you know someone that might be interested.............. How about a nice looking light that covers all the existing holes? Pete

philinjax, I always liked that look too. How did you resess the light?
|
I think I saw an LED version that was thin. Projected from the body about 3/8 "....still big and round though...

Ruddyboys,
I cut a slightly oversized elongated hole in the fender skin, then epoxied in a correctly sized 1/4 inch thick aluminum ring around the inside of the elongated hole. (Detail 1). I then ground and filed a smooth edge around the outside edge of the hole. (Detail 2). After that, I applied a thin coat of bondo to the contoured surface and sanded smooth. (Detail 3). It was a pita to do. Won't do it again. Phil http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1121099102.jpg |
damn, that makes shaving look EASY...
mad props for getting that to work and look that sweet! |
The easy low-budget way to shave the marker lights:
Get a PORSCHE sticker (round or shield shaped) and put it over the hole.... Believe it or not, I've seen cars like this that looked quite decent! --DD |
Stickers are nice on dented bumpers too.
|
How about a 356 rear tail light? Thats keepin' it in the family. Can someone draw that up? Pete
|
that would be kinda cool... but IMO, that's still more work than welding up the stock hole...
|
haven't done it yet, though
I've got some kinda crummy lenses I wanted to see if I could just grind down some of the edge so they fit close to the fender. The bulb may be close enough to cause a heat related problem on the lense, but I could prolly find LEDs...

Very NICE

These are `68 roadrunner side lites. Only had to fill the two small holes!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1122089041.jpg

Again, very nice. Meep Meep!

Duck tape is always an option out in this part of the country :D
|
I saw a Ford Grenada in Baltimore city and I kid you not it was 100 percent covered in duct tape. I think he considered it a color change.

I do not have a picture,
but I saw someone use a side marker off of a european 911, and wired it up to work with the turnsignals. I am sure that the holes had to be filled in with a sheetmetal patch and new holes cut, but it is a "Porsche" type part, and then PP or the other PP sells afermarket ones that are all kinds of different colors etc. My car does not have any sidemarkers, mostly because it is flaired and I never saw anything in that area of the fender that looked good with flairs. My 2 cents |
