Electrical System Problem

I own a 1973 914 1.7. Recently at a stoplight my engine died. I thought that it was due to lack of gas at first so I put gas in the tank. The engine did not start, then I figured that it was the fuel pump. The car has an after market fuel pump located under the car near the tie rod, it usually makes a loud clicking noise, there was no noise. I replaced it. Still it did not work. Then I followed the positive wire to it and it connected to the left hand parking light fuse. So I moved the wire to the low beam fuse and the fuel pump now works. The problem all along was the electrical system. Now the left hand parking light does not work and either do the head lights. Everything else works in the car but that. So my guess is that there is a problem somewhere before the fuse box or in the light switch. Some input would really help thanks.

Sometimes the fuses look good but they have corrosion built up at the ends. Remove the fuses and use a "ScotchBrite" pad or emory cloth on the fuse box connectors and the ends of the fuses.

A place I had problems with wires was under the gas tank. The car sat for 8-9 years with the PO and mice made a nice little nest under the tank, not so nice they ate many of the wires.

I have found the problem and it was in the light switch
