seattle mechanic?

I'm a new 914 owner, and although I hope to be able to do most of the work on this car myself I'd like to have it up and running well before the summer is over. Anyone know of a good 914 mechanic in Seattle, wa?

Thanks!

Check over in the 944 area. There are some good Seattle mechanics who frequent that area and one of them is apt to know a thing or two about the 914. Ronin and Britwrench come to mind.

aker's on broadway capitol hill is the only one to take your car to.....really! alot of our local shops do not like to work on the teeners anymore, and, denny or mark do amazing work all the way around.

I actually had Akers give my new (old) 914 the once over before I bought it. They found a few things wrong with the car, but they wanted a lot of money to fix them. For example 600$ to replace 1 brake caliper. That seems a bit excessive to me as I found a shop willing to do both brakes for 400. (Unfortunately the shop doesn't want to do any engine work on it) Plus the car isn't running only 1 week after purchasing it. There seems to be some electirical issues going on, and looking back at my work order, it doesn't seem that they did any real testing of the electrical system. Maybe I was expecting too much from a pre-buy inspection though.

I am hoping to do a lot of repairs myself in part because I want to learn (I've never really worked on cars apart from oil changes and installing a starter), and in part because I don't have the money to pay someone else. Seems like taking it to a porsche repair shop is just asking for a large bill though. I'm headed to the annual porsche swap meet in Phinney on saturday, and am hoping to meet some other 914 owners there to connect with!

robert, there should be quite a few local 914 owners at the swapmeet on sat. you should be able to get a few "look at the..." answers to some of your questions. i'd be cuirious what the shop did for only $400 parts and labor. it wouldn't take long for the parts alone to add up to that number. bring the reciept.

robert,
where in seattle are you located? my experience with denny and mark has been nothing short of spectacular. if you were quoted $600 for a brake job, that is genuine oem parts with truly professional porsche labor hands doing the work. it sounds like maybe your ppi was not as in depth as you had hoped, and like any communication was probably needing some explanation of expectations. drop me a pm with your email, and i will see if i can help you out at all from what your car is doing. if you are close enough to my house, maybe i can take a look and see if it is something obvious. problem is with these cars, running one moment, gremlin the next on something that has not been replaced in 30 years! i will be at the swamp meet on saturday with the "crusher" (read as my car is orange)!

I'm very much looking forward to the swap meet, and I'll have the receipt in hand :-) I also really appreciate everyone on this site- it's so great to have such a resource available. I'm really greatful for how helpful everyone has been and hope to be able to return the hospitality in some way soon.

Thought I'd post a pic of my car even though it doesn't compare to a lot of the 914s I've seen on here.

Redmond European has an excellent reputation.. very good diagnostic skills and repairs, fair prices, and quick turnaround time. Nice people. You owe it to yourself to stop in and talk with the owner (Monty) about your car.
