FI problem?
 

My '76 FI motor periodically just cuts out
on me. Usually when it does this, it starts right back up however sometimes it takes a few mintues of cranking. I assume it must be some sort of FI problem. Anybody had a similar experience?

Check all grounds and contacts. A dirty connection could give you that problem. Also check the fuel pump. If the pressure isn't consistant the FI will have trouble delivering that fuel to the injectors.

Fuel filter as well...make sure it is replaced with an FI one....those Pep Bouy Specials with the clear lense are for low pressure and carbs...

My experiance is that when a car just dies it is the ignition system. Not always though.

Check the ignition switch, will it turn and snap back, or is it kind of "mushy". See that the spark plug wires are good and not grounding out, also check the cap for "tracking" or cracks. Disconnect the tach wire from the coil, if this wire grounds out anywhere up the line it will kill the ignition. Run the motor with the lights off at night and look for any arching of sparks from the ignition system. Make sure the +12V terminal is on tight (sounds stupid but it happened....to a "friend" of mine)

Only fuel things that have cut me off like that are a blown fuel pump fuse, a bad ECU relay (a bad fuel pump relay would do the same), and a bad CHT sensor, but that usally gave some warning.

This is not a be all end all list, just some random thoughts. It might be something else. Generally look for a chafted wire or something that is corroded or loose.
