Q about heater system
 

My new (1976, 2.0L) 914 came w/ some missing tubes for the heater. In the engine compartment, behind driver, is a blower motor w/ a Y intake, and which I assume blows hot air forward to cabin. Also in engine compartment are some hose stubs that go through the engine tin down (I assume) to the heat exchangers. Am I correct that these need to be connected to the blower motor ? What are these hoses called ? Is there anyplace I can get some cheap, adequate hoses for this ?

order them from Pelican Parts and they send you the correct ones.

The air flows from the blower thru the Y connector down thru the tin using the J-Pipe. It goes into the Branch pipe were it meets air from the lower part of the egine and goes thru the HEs. Then goes thru the warm air elbow to the Heat control valve (which is controled by the red lever near the stick shift). Then up thru the longs (hopefully the hoses are still there) and into the cabin.

Okay, its starting to make sense. Looks like the parts I'm missing I'm missing are the "Blower Motor Hoses", that go from the Y adapter on the blower motor to the J pipe. As I understand it, the J pipe is mostly under the tin, with only a little stub showing above, is this right ?

As for the downstream part (Heater Control Valve, Heater Hose) is that entirely on the underside ?

p.s., I finally got a decent jack, so I'll get under the car tomorrow, weather permitting...

You are correct. On the older cars, the "J" pipe on the passenger side was capped. Actually, the very early cars used the passenger side, then it was capped, and then the '75 & '76 cars started using it again. All you need to do is connect tubing from your blower motor to the "J" tubes.

After air is forced into the "J" tubes, it is routed around the exhaust pipe (i.e., the heat exchanger) where is warms up and is then routed into the cabin. You don't have to use the passenger side but it is much nicer if you do.
