"Porsche" side stickers

Hello there-
I'm a newbie here but I've owned my '72 1.7 for near 10 yrs now so am no stranger to 'teeners.

I have a question on the "porsche" lettering/stripe that runs across the bottom of the doors. My car obviously had these at one time because I can see a line, or at least a hint of the line still there. Were these a factory item, or maybe a dealer-installed item?? A part of an 'appearance group' or something?

I have Pedrini's on there too, but I don't know if they are original or if that even helps.

Also, many thanks to Dave for typing, at some point in his long career "take the decklid off to get at the motor easier". I just tried that the other day, and by God I now feel like I have room to get in there and lay next to my intake runners!!! Well, almost. Thanks Dave. Don't know why I didn't try that one sooner.

Thanks for the great forum,
-Todd

Were offered as an option at the time; can't say if your particular car was so-equipped when it rolled off the factory floor ...

Thanks Rouser, I appreciate the help. So, it looks like these could then go on any version of 914. I can't help wondering if I'd like having them on there... at least it would help hide that faint line on the side. Something like $25 on eBay.

Thanks again,
-Todd

BTW....you don't HAVE to buy from me...%^B

Just don't buy that crap off of ebay or new old stock that's been sitting on the shelves for 30 years.

Yup, I saw one of those NOS decklid stripes (ugly, I think) on eBay and I thought to myself "self, do you think that it's even still sticky???"

I just wasn't sure what you were trying to say until I followed that link at the bottom of your sig.

I recall reading that the Pedrinis were a upgrade option in the early years, so they would very well be original.

Greg-
I think you're right about that. My spare is steel though, I wonder if they only came 4 to a car, I guess that could make sense??

I really like the looks of the Pedrinis myself... but obviously I'm a little biased. Sure don't see many on sale cars. Wheelsets go on eBay fairly often it seems, sometimes pretty steep though.

I read in Hussey's "Tech Tips 700" that they were painted silver. But mine are not- just cast and not polished. They actually look pretty darn rough if you get up close. I like 'em anyway though...
