Dang, I love some of those old cars......

you should come up...
a bunch of the guys are from texas, including the yellow teener.. (I think he recently relocated to CO) I could be wrong, but I think CVAR is pretty active in texas and oklahoma too. brant

I'm looking over the website. I have 3 cars that would be eligible, a '68 Triumph GT6 my 72 914, and a Spitfire (it's a 73 I think). It sure is tempting to sacrifice one for the grins......

They (RMVR) only like 72 and earlier. I think CVAR is more lenient.
also, you'd need to stick a 1.7 back into that 72 since that is the displacement that a 72 actually came with. I think you should do it.... its beyond words fun! brant

I'll go read thru the spec pages. I'd have to buy another 1.7 since it's long gone in an earlier rebuild.
The gt6 has a fresh balanced motor with a 3/4 cam and headers already.......:-> hmmmm lower the front end, I have that stiffer sway bar. Where's that pic of the Kas Kasner cars. I went surfing and found they're having an event next weekend in Cresson, TX near Ft Worth for some local clubs. I've put it on my calender.

Do it!
I think a GT-6 is one of the coolest looking cars! (although the 1.7L/4's seem to be just as fast on the track) heck... build up a 1.7 changing the motor only takes half a day anyways. brant

Brant, nice pix on that site - I have a friend that lives in Englewood and I (and my fiance) have been heavily considering moving out to the Denver area from shi**y SoCal for a while now - shooting for first of the year. I have been a bit worried about the racing, but there was a better turnout of awesome cars at Pueblo than Willow Springs has had here in a while!
He races an Audi and said some of the tracks near Denver have been closing down though, and mentioned the Pueblo track being the closest one now...

Its very sad but 2 tracks are closing.
one of them has been a planned thing for some time, and luckily the local racing groups have banned together to build a replacement. the new track is slatted for 2007. Pueblo is not the closest however... since Mead is closer (30 minutes from denver, probably an hour from englewood) However, there was also an unexpected closure a week ago of PPIR. It was a business sale by the owners, and completely out of any fan's control. So 2 tracks in one month sounds bad. I'm sure we will bounce back. There is a large active car group in colorado. Do you vintage, PCA, or SCCA? brant

The PPIR track is the one my friend just went to and said they announced it was closing because a track developer bought it to rip out all the stands, etc to send to other tracks they have in the US.
I have a V8 914 I am working on and will just plan on racing it with different clubs that will give me track time. Out here, clubs like the Shelby or Cobra Owners clubs, Pantera clubs, etc allow about anyone to race if you bring $$ - and since those cars are pretty fast, they let 914 V8s race a fair amount (don't exclude them to some lame exhibition class that runs once a day like a Porsche club does).

The rumor we heard about PPIR was that the buyer wanted the busch cup race date more than anything and bought the track to move the race to a different track.
tearing out the stands is just auxillary. all is not lost though, as there is a small contingent trying to talk the new owner into renting the "pavement only" 914 V8... cool... due to the large number of enthusiasts, PCA in colorado won't allow much non-porsche. I'm sure you could get into some of the multi-car clubs out here and the audi/nissan/cobra guys are really nice and fun! but they might not allow you into pca since they can fill their events. brant

![]() Clubs like the PCA aren't my cup-o-tea usually anyway - they tend to be "wine and cheesers". I agree that the Cobra clubs and multi-car clubs tend to be a much more fun crowd - the appeal to me of the 914 is that it tends to be a "blue collar" crowd kinda car and the working man crowd is the best crowd - can have a good race day and down a beer and hot dogs for dinner with some fun stories about how they spent all night tuning the carb to get it right (not how they pay so-and-so to tune their Motec). Start getting into those expensive Porsche crowds and the egos just gets a bit too much for me. And why would anyone really want to eat Bree anyway? Just the smell drives me the other way ![]() |

I have seen a bunch of comments like that relating to the PCA, but i have yet to find it in the RMR region. People like Brant, Grady, Walt, and so many others... always make me feel welcome. It doesnt matter that some people spent more on their last set of rims, then i bought my car for. Thats my experience anyway.

yeah, it is probably more of a SoCal thing. I grew up in the MidWest, but have lived out here all of my adult life, and one thing is for certain, there is a reason that LA is the breast augmentation capital of the world...
one of the main reasons I am looking to move to the RMR. My long time friend that grew up here in SoCal moved out there over 10 yrs ago and he would agree the people are just a much better crowd, and he wouldn't move back.

Grant,
nice to see you on here. did you guys get power back? I drove to kansas today and I have to say all the snow was between aurora and limon.... Elizabeth must have been buried. Hey.. I need you to consider joining RMVR. find a 1.7L to put into your red car over this winter. and then come to the spring driving school with it and get your liscense! seriously give it some though Grant. |
