1974 Appearance Group/option Questions

Hi,

I looked at the FAQs and buying guide but still have an Appearance group question for a 1974 1.8 liter vehicle.

Did the appearance group for this year include Chrome bumpers?
Anyone have pics of a 1974 with an Appearance group package?

Or were chrome bumpers dropped in 1974?

Thanks,

Frank

Frank,

The Appearance Group did include chrome bumpers. The 74 was the last year to offer them, being replaced by the full rubber "safety" bumpers in 75.

Here's a couple of pics of my 74.

The 74 also had the large rubber bumperettes on both front and rear bumpers.

wouldn't the vinyl sail coverings be part of the appearance group package?

i thought it was console, leather covered steering wheel, sail panel vinyl, chrome bumpers..... maybe something else i can't think of.....

According to "Dr. George":
Quote:

Appearance group ‘74-‘76 models: center console with gauges, leather wrapped wheel and shift boot, side vinyl, dual horns, loop carpeting, armrest and storage box
...He did leave out the chrome bumpers, but I'm pretty sure that was part of the "appearance group". Not sure about the fog lights. (See the pics of my car--link below--which has "everything" on it; chrome bumpers, sail panel vinyl, Fuchs wheels, sway bars, etc.)

Thanks to all.

One more question - Were all fog lamp bezels chrome? Or were they also available in black?

I can't find a definitive answer.... .

thanks,

frank

"yes" all fog light grills were chrome but i think were "chrome" plastic not chrome metal so the quality is poor. they are easily painted black.

I can confirm that the Dr914 is correct about the appearance group. Chrome bumpers were a separate option . I am the original owner of a 74 1.8 with the appearance group and it does not have chrome bumpers. Also, the fog lamp grills are die cast ( pot metal) that have been chrome plated.

Hope that helps.
