Triad muffler
Anybody have experience with the Triad muffler for the 914/4? It is fairly expensive ($320) but their dyno tests on a 3.2L 911 race motor look impressive. My application would be on a stock 73 2.0 with stock heater boxes (may go to headers later).
Looking for something that flows better than stock and meets 92dBA sound regs -- and sounds good too, hopefully. I've been underwhelmed with Burschs in the past and probably won't go that route again. (Right now I'm running a NOS factory muffler, which I would keep in storage.) Here's a pic: [This message has been edited by campbellcj (edited 02-07-2001).] |

I've contacted them and am seriously considering purchasing one this March. The sound level is actually quieter and better tuned than the Monza-type exhaust, with a more pleasant 6-ish sound.
They stated that it's set up to exit (after you notch the right side of a notched valence panel) attractively, and they'll adjust the exits if you prefer to use an un-notched valence panel (blowing down), or straight back (you drill the holes through the valence) for a dual 914-6 look. I'm going to be running a 916-style rear bumper, and I want the exhaust to exit a la 911 SC/911 Turbo dual exits. They have a customer who set it up that way and hope to get a pic soon. |

I have seen them on both sixes and fours at the local PCA autocrosses. On a four it gives it a more six like sound, deep and throaty. I know David Said and have bought parts from him. He is a great guy! I want to put one of these on my car this summer.

Thanks for the info guys, it sounds like a winner. I bought a perfect chrome bumper & cap from Dave last year -- great guy.
Steve - the pic above is the only one on their site (click the image to go to their products page.) I have the impression their headers & mufflers are built to order. |

Do they sell a muffler that bolts up to 914 heat exchangers?
I've seen the system on Dave's car and it appears to be a header from the heads back. ------------------ CWP/VIR 72 914 L20E in rusto. 73 914 L20E 2.0L in resto. http://members.rennlist.com/a914lover |

David has in the past made a 4 cylinder bolt up to the HE's. If he is still doing it, I don't know. I talked to him alot this summer and he still had the pieces to make them. Yes, the one on his car is a header system. How about that red car!

I just heard from Dave - yes he still can do basically any setup including one for the stock HE's. Quoted 1 week turnaround.

I just want to say Dave Said is a great guy, I bought a Front Sway bar from him last year. I took my 14 year old son with me and Dave just opened up his shop for us. My son is totally into 917's so Dave gave us a Speedvision video and his own home video from the Monterey porsche event. I wish I knew he built exhausts that mated to H/E I would have had one made for me instead of buying a Bursch.
