Seats

NO doubt some of you who have reached the half century mark find the 914 seats just about unbearable HOWEVER I am not prepared to spent $1k for seats for a car that I drive 2k a year. ANyone had any luck with the aftermarket seats taht sell on Ebay and AMazon. ALso there is a wrecker near me that has a supply of seats out of Japanese compacts however there is always the issue of getting them in. ANy suggestions?

A two piece (seat bottom and adjustable back) Recaro style seat will fit in a 914 if you delete the stock seat rail and/or aftermarket seat adapter and just mount the seat rail directly to the tub floor. In some cases, you will need to modify the back pad to accommodate the wider seat back.

I did this with a Recaro in my 914. The rail attached to the seat had a "L" shaped bracket with three mounting holes on each side of the front and back. I drilled holes through the square bar on the tub beneath the front seat area and ran long bolts right through the seat rail and the bar. I then bent the "L" shaped mounting bracket on the back so that it was flat against the tub floor. Drill a hole throught he tub and bolt the rear of the rail to the tub floor.

I sold the car and below is th eonly shot I have showing the Recaro in the car.

www.camp914.com offers the gt seats and may have have some other nice used aftermarket seats too. craig laughlin (the head cheese) can help you out. camp is located just outside of portland. you'll save a pretty nice bit of money picking one up in person as opposed to shipping. i puchased one used konig from camp and left the stocker on the passenger side.

I found these at the local FLAPS for about $110

I tossed the brakets it came with and bolted the 914 rails to it.
Then slid it on the stock brackets. It appears to sit a bit higher, but you can cut down the foam in the seat fairly easy.

They dont fit in the seat back but I dont move it back that far anyway. They are also a bit tight on the center pad near the bottom.

Ok bolsters, not great. But the adjustible back is nice.

and no annoying logos!

If you're not too tall....you can simply have your local upholstery guy rebuild the seat and add memory foam with lumbar support. The 914 seat is almost on the ground....

On my 911....my daily driver....I did that to beat on set of Recaros and added leather....$400 bucks and I had a beautiful set of seats.

Here are my Konig's made for a 914..if you do a WTB you might find a member that has some sitting around. Otherwise, do some glass work on your 914 frames to bolster them out and have them recovered.

Most seats are padded higher than stock 914 seats. These GT3 Porsche Recaro seats have a similar removable bottom and can be found on eBay and other places, NOT cheap but very comfy....
