Exclamation Some serious stuff here

I failed to head the wisdom of my intellectual leaders in the club and just went on a buying streak. Now I got a bunch of front end stuff that doesn't work together. What way would you go. I have 993 rotors, some 85 s calipers. and struts with 3.5 inch spacing. Would you just go with buying a pair of vented rotors and use S brakes or are the 993 brakes worth the trouble of getting 993 calipers and the needed items to make them fit? Keeping in mind these are on a heavier V8 car.

Other than adaptors and 16" wheels required for the monoblocks...why not? The 993 calipers, as cores, go at about $150+ each on eBay. The adaptors I've seen at about $225.....your guess on the wheels if 15" won't clear them.

brake rotor? adapters?

lay off the meds pal.

Joe Obrien had his 993 rotors machined to fit on pre 89 hubs......

993 rotors look like a 914 rear rotor... with a big hat on them.

how do you fit that to a 911 hub (pre 89) that uses 5 m10 (maybe 8?) bolts to hold the HATLESS rotor to the hub

What do you consider hatless? Look at the photos of the discs on the club site when it comes back up. These are not floating discs. all I would need to do is drill some holes to bolt them onto the hubs. My question is are they going to be that much better than S brakes?

Guess I should have drank more coffee......

as long as you make an adaptor that centers the caliper vent over a rotor and sets the height such that the rotor is not below the top edge of the pads, you can, in theory, use any rotor that can be mounted on the hub. If the rotor is significantly thinner than the designed rotor thickness, you could suffer overextension of the caliper pistons as the pad wears.

Hey......"Bling is everything"

actually you dont machine the rotor, you chuck the hub in a lathe and take a few thou off the outer dia, so the 993 rotor fits over the hub..

I guess you could machine the rotors to make them work...machine hubs once? or machine every set of rotors you go through...

merry christmas guys,

did we forget to pay the phone bill again?

I dont have that problem the rotors are thicker than the opening in the caliper with the pads shoved all the way in.

ok re-read the post. get the 993 or 944t calipers

Dont think the 85 calipers are called S calipers. since your struts are 3.5 in that opens alot of doors..

Larry,

like TimT mentioned, to use the 993 rotors on the 911 hubs, you'll have to machine the hubs.

1st picture shows the interferance, second pic shows approx. how much to machine off (black marker)
