Just picked up the New Engine for my GT Clone

Well, it has been a long time in the making, but the twin plug 3.0 for my 914-6 GT clone is finished!!! The tranny is next (I'm still searching for a LSD) and I need to hunt out all the other bits that that go with it. Stratton Motorsports will be adding the factory flares & painting it next month, taking the 914-6 dash to be powder coated next week, the 930 front susp has already been coated (still need 930 backing plates) and need to get the Konig seats recovered. http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...sun_smiley.gif http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1136064412.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1136064431.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1136064508.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1136064520.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1136064531.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1136064542.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1136064562.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1136064573.jpg

Super!! And, interesting engine stand. You make that?

Also, I see you run the stock 4-cyl mount. Any reason why you prefer that?

A friend built it for me and powder coated it. Actually, it is either a early Vellios or Patrick mount. That is what it was first built with.

WTG Byron! Can't wait to see it all rolling!

My stand looks like that! It's just a VW clamp I think, with a Porsche yoke. Works really well.

Gary Stratton of Stratton Motorsports has my rear flares installed:D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1144195570.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1144195591.jpg

I'm sure this is a dumb question...

What are those things holding the flares to the fenders?

Dave at Pelican Parts 04-05-2006 08:46 AM

Clamps. They'll be replaced with either pop-rivets (if the flares are fiberglass) or plug-welds (if the flares are steel).

Actually they are called cleco fasteners. Racer Parts Wholesale sells them and their pliers.

RandyLok 04-05-2006 01:36 PM

You leave them on for the 80s heavy metal look. :D

Acox914 04-05-2006 01:41 PM

They will be butt welded, that is why I'm having Gary Stratton do them, as they a factory NOS steel flares, because I know he will do it right!!! He is also going to cut the oil cooler opening for the RSR front cooler & mount the hood mount fog lights:D

Sonjay 04-05-2006 05:30 PM

"Always Butt.......never lep" And then metal finish...NO BONDO!

Gary

P.S. Those things on the flares are as said before "clecos" used when making airplanes, we use them to hold on flares and other body parts, and always put the whole car together with those BEFORE YOU MAKE THE FIRST CUT so you know everything fits. We can do your car this way to just take to my agent BVD, give me your first and second bron and lots of money I'll call you when it's done don't call me I'll charge you for the down time, Bryon's 914-6 GT will make our 17th one and we love doing it. Thanks

Byron - I'm curious what size tires (front and back) those flares will allow. Also, what diameter are the Fuchs? 16's??

Best Regards,
Bob S.
