914-6 Engine Removal Suggestions

I have a '71 914-6 conversion with a '71 911E 2.2 with mechanical fuel injection. My question is, what tips or thoughts does anyone have in removing the motor? I have dropped a engine out of a 914-4 without much problem. Do I have to or should I remove the fuel injection so it will clear when dropping the engine? Can this be done easily with the engine in the car? What suggestions on the type of jack I should use and jacking points. Any suggestions that would make this job easier would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Your best bet is to enlist the help of your brother. I hear he is a mechanical wizard. A 2 foot section of a 2x6 or 2x8 will help distribute the load onto a floor jack. (-:

The 911 motor is a whole bunch easier than the 4 motor. This is because the fuel injection on the four has a tendency to get hung up when dropping the motor. Place a board under the oil sump plate - somewhere in there is the balance point.

I was going to do a tech article on this, but I didn't think that there would be much interest...

Make sure that you jack the car up really high in order to clear the fuel injection - it's easier to do that then to remove the fuel injection...

There are less things to disconnect on the motor with a 911 motor, so it should be easier. The hardest part is finding a good balance point.

Hope this helps,

Wayne
