Take the inspection plate in the front of the tunnel off, and get a mirror in there.. what do you see?

Some people have reported that the swage on the cable end has extruded out a bit too much and won't fit through the bends in the tube. You might need to grind these down a bit to get things to clear. Another problem has been if the tube has been rewelded it might have been deformed from excessive heat.

I just went through this with our 74 914. The problem was the cables and the swage on the ends came loose when I was trying to put them in and the inner cable would jam and not move! I tried two cables, one made in Italy and one from Germany and finally used one of the super duty ones like I use in the race car. the outer cable was a twisted bunch of strands of stiff wire and when the swage came loose they would dig into the inner cable. I also looked in the tunnel as noted and it was clear.

I tried what Harvey suggested and it went right on in. I just carefully grinded the cable end of the swedge down narrower and it worked. THANKS EVERYONE
